eBay Tip #31 – Dedicated Thermal Label Printer – A Must Have

Rollo Thermal Label Printer

I don’t know why I waited so long, but I finally took the plunge! I bought a dedicated USB thermal label printer!

No Ink Needed

Thermal printers are really cool because they use no ink! Instead, the printer prints digitally on thermal paper by heating selected areas of the paper as it passes over the thermal print head.

Actually, I have previously owned a Dymo thermal printer made just for printing small 1″ x 3″ mailing labels. I used this when I sold on Amazon as an FBA seller (fulfilled by Amazon). In order to send my products to their warehouses, each item had to have the bar code covered over with a new code label. I loved the ease of use. It just printed a specific size label, over and over. It was a work horse! I loved that little printer!

I didn’t come by newest purchase without cause. My main printer, a Brother Color Laser printer (MFC-9130CW) needed a new fuser, which I’ve replaced in the past, so I ordered the part on eBay. It came, I installed and it still was not working properly. I re-installed the old one, no help either. I had a lot of shipping to do today, so yesterday I did a little research and decided to buy a dedicated thermal label printer, just for my shipping labels.

My 1st Choice

How did I decide on the Rollo Thermal Printer? Here are my top three reasons:

  • It works with a Mac
  • The Price was right ($169 on Amazon)
  • I saw some reviews to convince me

Speedy and Compatible

In addition, it works with all my various platforms of selling online:

  • eBay
  • Poshmark
  • Amazon

AND my shipping platforms:

  • eBay.com
  • Stamps.com
  • Endicia
  • Ship Station
  • Pirate Ship

Prints in a Matter of Seconds

  • It uses 4″ x 6″ connected stacked thermal labels, which feed into Rollo printer
  • For best results I use: Preview app and Chrome browsers
  • Label tears right off after printing
  • Peal off back of label and attach to your package!

Here is a video on installing the Mac Driver! So easy!

The items include: eBay branded boxes, tape, envelopes, tissue paper, thank you cards, stickers and more. The color choices and sizes change a bit from quarter to quarter.

My favorite thing to order is the tape. I go through a ton of it and will not run out any time soon. This month I’m getting some brown strapping tape with the eBay logo.

I also ordered some boxes. I need to re-stock my inventory in the size 8″ x 6″ x 4″, which is perfect for smaller items when shipping my eBay orders/sales.

After clicking on “Add to my cart”, I will check out and then pay for my FREE eBay branded supplies, using my coupon and PayPal.

Your Order is Being Shipped

Within an hour of my order, which was totally free except for $3.95 sales tax, I received an email that showed my items had been shipped! They should arrive early next week.

They have already left me positive feedback for my order! I will leave feedback for them, once I receive my order!

eBay Tip # 16 – Need to File IRS 1099-MISC Forms?

How to Send a 1099-MISC

If you are an online seller, you may have a need to send a 1099-MISC form at some point.

  • Please be aware, I am not a tax expert and I am not giving tax advice.
  • I am writing about an online product that has helped me get through this process.

Yearli by Greatland Review

Yearli by Greatland for filing 1099-MISC

If you are a do-it-yourselfer, Yearli by Greatland might be right up your alley. It is extremely user-friendly!

I’ve used it for the past few years during the month of January when the forms need to go out!

My needs may be different from yours, so please consult your tax professional.

  • I am a consignment seller and send a 1099-MISC to my clients that have received payments of $600 or more for sales I have made for them.
  • I also have sent 1099-MISC to my contract workers when they have helped with my eBay listings.

Who Gets a 1099-Misc?

  • You must give a 1099-MISC form to any individual or business your business paid $600 or more in a tax year.
  • That form is given to non-employees such as independent contractors and other entities paid by your company.
  • NOTE: You only need to report payments you made in the course of your business. Personal payments are not reportable.

File Form 1099-MISC for each person to whom you have paid during the year:

  • At least $10 in royalties or broker payments in lieu of dividends or tax-exempt interest.
  • At least $600 in:
    • Rents.
    • Services performed by someone who is not your employee.
    • Prizes and awards.
    • Other income payments.
    • Medical and health care payments.
    • Crop insurance proceeds.
    • Cash payments for fish (or other aquatic life) you purchase from anyone engaged in the trade or business of catching fish.
    • Generally, the cash paid from a notional principal contract to an individual, partnership, or estate.
    • Payments to an attorney.
    • Any fishing boat proceeds.

In addition, use Form 1099-MISC to report that you made direct sales of at least $5,000 of consumer products to a buyer for resale anywhere other than a permanent retail establishment.

Before You Send out a 1099-MISC Form

Before you give anyone a 1099-MISC form, you must first get a W-9 form from that person, verifying their taxpayer ID number or social security number. You cannot accept the person’s information informally.

If your business is audited, you will need to be able to show a W-9 form for everyone who did work for you.

NOTE: Check with your tax professional if you have concerns with sending someone a Form 1099-MISC.

My Z Rating

On my scale of the “Z” Rating with 5 being the highest and 1 the lowest, I give Yearli by Greatland a solid 5 ZZZZZ’s for all that it offers consignment sellers/businesses.

As a solo-prenuer online seller and a serial do-it-yourselfer I would be lost without it. The cost is small. It takes no time at all. It was literally five minutes for me to create and file two 1099-MISC forms this morning.

eBay Tip #4 -Get A PayPal Debit Card & Save $

Tip #4

One of my favorite ways to save money selling on eBay, is to use my PayPal Master Card Debit Card. It returns a 1% cash back every month for purchases made.

Biz Only

I use it strictly for my online eBay business to keep my bookkeeping straight. What ever I spend in a month using the PayPal Business Debit Card will come back to me as a Cash Back Bonus, the following month. I pay my eBay fees every month which are roughly 10% of my sales. So If I sell $2K on eBay, my fees are about $200 and I will get $2 back.

Besides my eBay fees, my shipping costs are my highest expense each month. I use my PayPal Master Card Debit Card to pay for them and that earns me between $3 to $5 back on those fees. Each month is a little different, and I like getting any dollar amount directly back into my PayPal account even if it is small. Over the course of a year, it can easily add up to over $100 for me, given my eBay expenses: fees, shipping costs and other bills associated with my eBay business.

Once upon a time, users of the Cash Back Plan made 3%, which was awesome, buy hey, I’ll take 1% anytime. And like I said every little bit helps the bottom line. In order to take advantage of the Cash Back Bonus on PayPal, it is necessary to apply for a FREE business debit card and join the program. There is no cost in joining.

In fact, you don’t need to be an eBay seller to receive money back. If you are a business PayPal member and get one of these business debit cards, then eligible purchases you make with the card will put this 1% bonus in your account the following month.

For complete transparency here are my Cash Back Bonus numbers during 2019:

These numbers do not include my final payment of 2019, but I earn approximately $93 back this past year. Not too shabby!
